  • Do I need a visa to visit Istanbul?
    It depends on your nationality. Some travelers can enter visa-free, while others need an e-Visa. Check your requirements here: https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/
  • What’s the weather like in late May?
    Late May in Istanbul is warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 26°C (64-79°F). It’s a great time for sightseeing, Bosphorus cruises, and outdoor dining. Pack light layers for the daytime and a light jacket for the cooler evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as you'll be exploring on foot. Don’t forget to bring a hat or sunglasses for sun protection and a small umbrella in case of light rain.
  • Is Istanbul safe for tourists?
    Yes, Istanbul is generally safe for tourists. Stick to well-lit areas at night, watch out for pickpockets in crowded places, and use official taxis (BiTaksi) or ride-hailing apps like Uber.
  • How do I stay connected to the internet in Istanbul?
    You can easily stay connected by getting a local SIM card from the airport or local stores (Turkcell, Vodafone). Alternatively, you can use Wi-Fi, which is widely available in most cafes, hotels, and public areas.   • What’s the best way to get from the airport to the city center?
    Istanbul Airport (IST) → Use Havaist airport shuttles (Schedule & Routes), subway, taxis, or private transfers. Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) → Take Havabus shuttle (Schedule & Routes), subway, taxis, or private transfers.
  • How do I get around Istanbul?
    The Istanbulkart is a rechargeable transport card used for metros, trams, buses, ferries, and funiculars. Buy it at kiosks near metro stations or bus stops. More info: https://www.iett.istanbul/en In some cases, you do have the option to tap on and tap off using a Visa/Mastercard credit or debit card, however you will pay a surcharge of at least 50% on the fare. Recommend using a rechargeable transport card if you anticipate using public transit often during your trip.
  • Is Uber available in Istanbul?
    Yes, but it mostly connects passengers with official yellow taxis. You can also use BiTaksi, a local taxi app.
  • Are there any alternatives to taxis and public transport?
    Yes, in addition to taxis and public transportation, you can use ferries (“vapur”) to cross the Bosphorus. These are a scenic and enjoyable way to get around the city, especially if you want to go from the European side to the Asian side.
  • Does the Official Hotel offer a shuttle service to the airport?
    The hotel does not offer a shuttle service to either airport.
  • What currency is used in Istanbul?
    The Turkish Lira (TRY/ TL / ₺). Some places accept euros or dollars, but you’ll get a better exchange rate if you pay in lira.
  • Can I use my credit card, or do I need cash?
    Most hotels, restaurants, and shops accept Visa/Mastercard, but small vendors and local markets prefer cash. ATMs are widely available. If you are planning on using your credit and/or debit cards, we recommend you contact your Bank prior to departure to advise them of your travels in order to avoid having your cards blocked.
  • Where can I exchange money?
    Use exchange offices (Döviz Bürosu) in the city center or ATMs. Avoid airport exchanges as they have high fees. You can ask your hotel concierge or reception for directions to the nearest exchange office.
